Jumboo moderation space

In effect as of : may the 23rd, 2025

At Jumboo, we commit to guaranteeing a free, safe and respectful environment for all.

True to our mission to promote responsible communication, our approach is based on the principle “Delete, reduce, inform”, in compliance with European (GDPR, DSA) and American (CCPA, CPRA) regulations.

1. Our moderation strategy: “Delete, reduce, inform”

Delete: we actively remove all content infringing on our Community Standards or Use Policies, including hateful, violent, excluding, sexually explicit, or discriminatory content.

Reduce: we limit the reach of dubious, misleading, or disturbing content even if it does not constitute a clear offense.

Inform: we provide transparency and context tools to empower our users to make informed choices about what they read, share, or comment on.

2. Building our moderation policies

We develop our rules in collaboration with:

  • Experts in human rights, social justice, and technology,
  • Lawyers specialized in international digital law,
  • Researchers and associations specialized in online user protection.

Our rules continuously evolve to stay aligned with societal, cultural, and regulatory standards.

3. Reporting and protection features

We offer our users:

  • Simple and accessible reporting tools,
  • The ability to block, hide, or unsubscribe from an account,
  • Privacy settings suitable for all profiles.

4. Implementation: technologies & human intervention

a. Automated detection
Our AI system proactively identifies and removes infringing content. Machine learning models are trained on multilingual and multicultural data.

These technologies are designed to:

  • Recognize non-compliant images or texts,
  • Spot recurrent infractions (anti-spam mechanisms, viral memes),
  • Distinguish nuances in posted content (context, tone, irony).

b. Manual review
Our human moderators intervene:

  • When doubt remains about a post,
  • When thematic or cultural expertise is needed,
  • In case of appeals or disputes regarding automated decisions.

Reviewers work in over 20 languages and receive ongoing training in law, ethics, and social psychology.

5. Regulatory compliance

a. In Europe (GDPR & DSA)
Users have the right to access, rectify, delete, and object to the processing of their data. Jumboo enforces obligations under the Digital Services Act (DSA): algorithmic transparency, moderation reporting, notice & action obligations. Users may appeal moderation decisions via an integrated form or through a control authority.

b. In the United States (CCPA / CPRA)
Californian users can request:

  • A list of categories of collected data,
  • The reasons for collection,
  • Access to their data,
  • Deletion or portability of their data,
  • Not to be subject to discriminatory automated decisions.

6. Challenges and appeals

If you believe content was wrongfully removed or you contest a decision made against you (e.g., account suspension), you can:

  • Use the contestation form available in your user interface,
  • Contact our Data Protection Officer (DPO) at: dpo@jumboo.io,
  • In Europe: file a complaint with your national data protection authority.

7. Ethical commitment

Jumboo is a voluntary member of international initiatives fighting illegal content (e.g., the EU Code of Practice on Disinformation or the Global Alliance for Responsible Media). We have also established an ethics think tank involving experts and civil society representatives to guarantee a balance between freedom of expression and individual protection.

Partnerships and International Regulatory Compliance

To guarantee compliant, ethical, and protective moderation, Jumboo collaborates with recognized partners: e-Enfance, Respect Zone, Point de Contact (France), as well as Common Sense Media, NetSmartz (NCMEC), ConnectSafely, StopBullying.gov, and the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI) in the United States.

Our moderation approach is based on the following legal frameworks:

  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR – EU Regulation 2016/679)
  • Digital Services Act (DSA – EU Regulation 2022/2065)
  • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA – Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.100)
  • California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA)
  • Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA – 15 U.S. Code § 6501-6506)
