At Jumboo, security and well-being of children is the heart of our priorities. If we notice accounts created in a child’s name is used by parents or legal guardians for commercial purposes, it can constitute a breach of the relevant legal framework.
That situation rises several important risks :
- Lack of freely given and enlightened consent from the child
- Potential exploitation of the rights and image of the child.
- Risk of pressure or contingencies in connection with content monetization.
- Breach of rules pertaining to children’s personal data.
Rigorous supervision for any child’s account reaching a significant audience threshold (i.e.. more than 10’000 followers). This includes (but isn’t limited to):
- Provision of a modeling or representation contract in compliance with the corresponding country’s laws, guaranteeing rights and protection for the child.
- Creation of a bank account dedicated to handling generated revenue, in compliance with financial and tax regulations.
- Respect of specific regulations such as :
- European Union : GDPR, SMA, labor code on children (Contracts, work time).
- United States : Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), labor code on children and representation contracts.
- Australia : Australia : Privacy Act 1988, Online Safety Act, Child protection in medias laws.
We strongly encourage families to respect these regulations to ensure protection of young users’ fundamental rights, their privacy and integrity.
In case of doubt or report about inappropriate exploitation, our team is available to intervene and support all the parties involved.
